Find Wood County Jail Releases

To find someone released from Wood County Jail / Wood County Sheriff Justice Center, verify the event through the county jail, bond, court, or records channel tied to that booking. A person who leaves this Wood County facility may return to the community, but the same departure can mean transfer to state prison, another jail, or another authority. The live jail roster does not settle that question after a name disappears. A maintained book-out, release disposition, court order, custody notice, or receiving-agency record gives the stronger answer.

Wood County Jail Release Paths

The Wood County Sheriff's Office runs this county jail in Quitman. It is also called the Wood County Sheriff Justice Center on the official page. People held here can include pretrial detainees, people serving local time, and people waiting for a court or transfer event. It is not a TDCJ state prison, even when a person will later enter state custody.

A local departure can follow cash or surety bond, a personal or court-ordered release, sentence completion, credit for time served, dismissal, acquittal, or an order placing the person on probation. Those routes may return the person to the community. A transfer to TDCJ, another county, federal custody, immigration custody, or a medical setting ends this jail's custody but not all confinement. Ask for the release disposition and public transfer destination when maintained.

A detainer is a hold or request from another authority. It may keep someone confined after the Wood County case no longer supplies the local basis. A dismissal in one case also does not clear unrelated warrants or holds.

Confirm Wood County Jail Releases

The official Wood County Public Access system covers Sheriff Jailing and Sheriff Bond records alongside court cases. It may preserve a useful event after the person leaves the current population. Wood County does not promise how long a released booking stays online, which fields every result shows, or how often the portal refreshes. Treat the portal as a starting point, not a guaranteed archive.

  1. Open the official Wood County Public Access portal and select the Jail Records or Jail Bond Records category shown.
  2. Search with the full name and compare any booking, arrest, bond, and case identifiers.
  3. Use the criminal case route to look for a bond order, signed judgment, dismissal, sentence, or transfer event.
  4. Check a Texas VINE or Wood County IVSS notice when monitoring a custody change, then verify it with the jail.
  5. If no affirmative book-out appears, call 903-763-2201 or submit a narrow written request for the release record.

The full Wood County released inmate search and records route also explains when to switch to TDCJ, BOP, or ICE. That switch matters. TDCJ's public search is current-only, BOP covers federal custody, and ICE's locator mainly addresses current immigration detention. None substitutes for a Wood County jail book-out.

Important: A missing roster name can reflect release, transfer, data lag, or a search mismatch. Require an affirmative event.

Wood County Jail Release Notices

Texas VINE provides a one-person custody check and future event notices for participating agencies. Search with the name or identifier accepted by the service, confirm that the matched agency is Wood County Jail, and review the status and update details. Registration options can include phone, text, email, or in-app delivery. A phone registration may use a PIN, while other channels may use a link, code, or account confirmation.

Wood County also offers confidential IVSS registration help through District Attorney Victim Services at 1-866-268-8959, available 24/7. IVSS can cover county-jail-status changes and court events, which may post at different times. A notice is useful for a fast custody update, but it is not a certified release record and can lag. Save the event details, then call the jail or request the book-out when documentary confirmation matters. A county-jail notice also should not be assumed to cover every later TDCJ event after a transfer.

Wood County Jail Release Records

A focused request should identify the booking and ask for existing records rather than ask staff to decide whether a person is legally free. Useful identifiers include full name, date of birth when available, sheriff or booking number, case number, and the arrest date range. Requested items can include the booking sheet, book-in and book-out dates and times, release disposition or authority, related bond record, releasing facility, public transfer destination, and booking photograph.

Use the current Sheriff Open Records page and official request form for delivery methods. The county says an itemized estimate is supplied if expected charges exceed $40. That is an estimate threshold, not a flat copying fee. If releasable records cannot be produced within ten working days, the public-information officer provides a reasonable date. Confidential, juvenile, sealed, expunged, victim, security, or protected information may be withheld or redacted under applicable law.

Note: Twenty-four-hour jail operation does not promise a release time, public counter schedule, or instant record update.

Wood County Jail Bond Release

The county jail page says family or friends may post an exact-amount cash bond with cash, a money order, or a cashier's check. Surety bonds run through a bonding agency. The county states an added $15 state fee on each of the first two bonds in one jailing, with a $30 cap. Class C bonds are exempt from those stated charges, and the same state fees apply to surety bonds.

Posting bond explains the legal route out of pretrial custody, but it does not prove the physical release time. Staff may still need to accept the bond, verify identity, check warrants and detainers, and complete book-out work. Wood County publishes no daily release hour or exit location. Call the jail about the specific event rather than estimating when someone will leave.

The official Wood County jail source shown in the successful manifest image links jail search, bond information, property rules, and Texas VINE.

Those local channels help distinguish an actual community book-out from a move into another custody system.

Wood County Release Property

The jail page says property is not released on Tuesdays or Sundays during visitation hours. It also says inmate-account money cannot be removed unless the person is released, or the money is used for medical charges or commissary purchases. These are limited published rules. They do not identify the release exit, set the hour for returning property, or describe every step for a former detainee.

Ask the jail where and when remaining property and account funds will be handled after the book-out. Confirm what identification or receipt is required before a trip. Do not infer that the visitation rule controls release processing itself.

Wood County Jail Release Setting

The present jail was completed in 1988 with 71 beds and seven separation cells. Wood County reports that it expanded in 2001. The current county wording identifies 112 beds with male separation cells plus 25 female beds with female separation cells. It does not clearly say whether the 25 female beds are inside or outside the 112, so those figures should not be added into an invented total.

A March 18, 2025 Texas Commission on Jail Standards planning report listed project 591, the Wood County Inmate Housing Addition, with status C for under construction. The report named no new bed count or completion date. Its dated status should not be treated as proof that the addition is complete now.

Note: Construction status is drawn from the March 2025 report and requires a newer official source before any completion claim.

Wood County Jail Record Retention

Web display and government retention are not the same. Wood County publishes no online retention period for former bookings. Texas State Library Local Schedule PS4200-06a makes a county jail register permanent and describes the release or transfer date among its minimum data. Supporting booking, transfer, and release documents in PS4200-10 generally carry a minimum of release or transfer plus two years.

That schedule supports a historical request after the portal stops showing a name. It does not mean every supporting record is permanent or public. Expunction, nondisclosure, juvenile confidentiality, pending litigation, public-information requests, and other rules can affect access or destruction. Ask for the exact register entry or release document needed.

Wood County Jail Transfer Checks

A person sentenced or ordered into state custody can leave the county jail for TDCJ without entering the community. Search TDCJ while the person is incarcerated, then request state incarceration history or a release record after custody ends. A unit-location change alone is not a discharge.

The county's other documented correctional facility is the Clyde M. Johnston Unit, a TDCJ Substance Abuse Felony Punishment Facility. It is not a county-jail annex. A departure there can mean transfer, aftercare, community supervision, or another court-directed placement, so its release path relies on TDCJ and the sentencing case.
